Look for the
Ingles Buchan
label when buying tartans for authentic tartans woven in the Borders and tailored in Glasgow.
You can't get more Scottish than that!

Welcome... Whether you're looking for items to reflect your heritage, or simply enjoy the design of Tartans, you've come to the right place: this site presents a list of retailers across the US and a sampling of the products they carry and supply...

This is not the web storefront of a single shop. It is a Scottish mall of sorts, presenting a list of retailers throughout the United States. Each shop represented sells products shown here, as well as offering additional products and services. Prices are up to the individual shops, so no prices are listed here.

Follow the links below to the state where you live or where you'll be visiting to find a shop there. Many gladly handle mail-orders. Give them a call or follow the links to their own sites to find out more! Mention that you found them at www.ScottishImports.com when you call upon them.

LAUGH

Tartans we don't have...We are sorry (or not) to announce that we do not offer the following Tartans:

McDonalds of the Arches Gold - Though a Tartan with a fine tradition, and only 39¢ a yard on Tuesdays, the weavers will not go near it, currently prefering a Tartan that "gets all over the place", whatever that means...

McDonalds of Ketchup - See above. Has the advantage in that it comes with fries... (Also known under the alternate spelling "Catsup").

MacDanife - Scarlet billows, trace of bright red, pearly white and gray ... for the cement. (But come on, any Scot knows that a guy named MacHeath would be carrying a Skean Dubh instead of a jack-knife, right?) - [Submitted by P. Rowling]

MacHinery - a tartan honoring the Industrial Revolution - [Submitted by The MacKenzies]

:-) If you've heard a good one for this section, let us know...

"What Tartan can I wear?"

There is some degree of controversey over which Tartans any one of us should wear. Many believe that you should only wear the Tartan of your Clan, while others feel comfortable wearing any Tartan they like the look of, regardless of the Clan to which it "belongs." Who is right? We'll leave that for the philosophers to debate.

Below is a list, drawn from multiple sources, of Tartans that it is generally agreed upon that anyone can wear. Click the samples to see a larger swatch -- images will open in a new window (close that window to return here).

Caledonia - Possibly one of the Tartans favored by the fashionable ladies of Edinburgh, who disapporved of the Act of Union. Since it belongs to no clan, it is one of those setts which anyone, not possessing a Tartan of his or her own, is entitled to wear. (Our number 15) Perhaps, very appropriate now that Scoland has its own Parliament again.

Flower of Scotland - Created to honor Roy Williamson, writer of 'The Flower of Scotland', Scotland's National Song, it is for all to wear, carrying no Clan name. (Our shorthand: FOS)

Jacobite - Strongly believed to be another of the Anti-Union setts. As it belongs to no known name or District, this Tartan now ranks as one which anyone may wear, who does not possess a sett of their own. (Our number: 373) Perhaps, very appropriate now that Scoland has its own Parliament again.

Stewart Hunting - Considered Scotland's Hunting Tartan (Our numbers: 179, 510, and 632).

The Tartan Army Tartan - For anyone, especially the sports enthusiast. Based on the colors of the Saltire and the Rampant Lion (Our shorthand: TTA)
